Seedling Planting Stock
Treehaven Evergreen Nursery offers this home page to wholesale interests in the nursery trade. We serve other nurseries, arboretuns, landscape nurseries, christmas tree growers, and various other propagators of conifers. Please request our plant list (free) which contains prices and ordering instructions.

Being a small nursery, we specialize in unusual/rare, sometimes referred to as "exotic conifers" (generally not dwarf species, however).

In the mid to late 1980's, peace with Russia, China, and several other countries opened the door to the introduction of flora never seen before. China, for example, is native to half of the world's true firs! (Firs like Fraser, balsam, etc.)

A few of these firs are:

  • abies chensiensis - shensi fir
  • abies georgei - George's fir
  • abies delevay - Delevay fir
  • abies ernesti - Ernest fir
  • abies fabri - Farber fir
  • abies firma - Momi/Japanese fir

Other outstanding conifers native to China are picea meyeri (Meyer spruce) and Metasequoia glyptostroboides (Dawn redwood)

Other relatively new to growers are:

  • abies boris regis - Bulgarian fir
  • abies cilicica - Cilician fir
  • abies holophylla - Needle fir (Manchuria/China)
  • abies Equitrojani - Trojan fir
  • abies Koreana - Korean fir
  • abies nordmanniana - Nordmann fir - Ambralauria Russia/Turkey
  • abies bornmuelleriana - Turkish fir - our "Olympic fir"
  • abies pindrow - Pindrow fir (India/Nepal)

Many of these "new" firs have high ornamental value and will find their way into those types of plantings rather than as cut Christmas trees. Most abies (true firs) have beautiful foliage and some will be raised for floral use - selected cuttings for use in the making of weaths, flower arrangements, center pieces, etc.

Several especially nice for those purposes are: Nordmann, Turkish, Noble, Korean, and Fraser firs. Denmark, for example, ships millions of pounds of bough material (Nordmann and Noble) into the European floral market.

At Hill Top Tree Farms, we propagate some bough material (abies) through stump culture; mostly Fraser and balsam firs. When adequate lower branching is left below where the tree was severed, the branches can be harvested while a new tree grows from the tr unk. Inquire for additional information.

Treehaven's plant list contains other plants of interest to Christmas tree growers such as Treehaven's Super Blue spruce, Heavenly Blue Concolor, and Sea-Green Nordmann.

Being a small nursery with limited production of most species, we usulally sell out early. Contact us at any time to reserve plants or send your want list. Your future interest is welcome. Pending available seed, in Spring 2004, we expect to offer the se greenhouse grown plants (as plugs):

  • Shasta Red Fir
  • Pacific Silver fir - British Columbia
  • Grand fir - fast growing inland British Columbia
  • Douglas fir - Adams Lake, British Columbia - fast grower
  • Nikko fir (abies homolepis) - lovely ornamental
  • Cilician fir - rare
  • Noble fir - fast growing Danish
  • Nordmann - new Danish orchard, fast grower
  • Trojan fir (abies equitrojani)
  • Mayr Sakhlin fir (abies mayriana) - Japan
  • Pinyon Pine - pinus edulis

Concolor, Grand, Nordmann, Turkish, Douglas, Canaan, and Fraser will remain along with Meyer and Colorado Blue Spruce. Our continued plant production will be determined by availability of quality seed from tree types we have reason to believe merit evalua tion by Christmastree growers and nurserymen.
